Homestead Happenings in December December 2 10 am -2 pm Victorian Christmas at the Harris log house (See website calendar for other scheduled groups and availability during the Christmas season) December 16 10 am -2 pm “Historic Christmas Food For Thought” A taste of Christmas past at the William Harris Homestead Saturday, December 16, 2017 10 am to 2 pm Clarissa Lynch Clifton, our Open Fire Pit cooking historian, will be preparing dishes popular in the 1800’s, demonstrating methods, implements, and recipes handed down to there through the years. She is planning on roast pork, “meager” soup, and a “real” fruit cake. Doc Watson and his blacksmithing apprentices will be hammering out Christmas tunes on the anvil, making beautiful wrought iron implements for unique Christmas gifts. Docents, dressed in the style of the day, will be on hand to talk about customs and traditions of times long ago. Make a cotton angel or corn husk doll or other ornament, using natural supplies from the Harris woods.
