The William Harris Homestead is planning to open the William Harris Homestead Foundation property for hiking trails for all ages. The countryside of the Homestead is so very beautiful, serene and peaceful–just perfect for walking and watching. We also want to focus on the agricultural environment of the Homestead, providing exercise for the body and the mind with hiking trails and informative signs along the way.

Heritage Day 2015 … Reflections On The Civil War is being planned for spring of 2015. We will celebrate 19th century farming and commemorate the end of the sesquicentennial remembrance of the Civil War. See photos of our last Heritage Day here.
A Day in the 19th Century Field Trip was totally booked for fall of 2013. We have had such a great time with over 2,000 students, chaperones and teachers from northeast Georgia this past fall. We are busy scheduling for spring 2014. Learning about the 1800’s with William and Harriet Harris and their family as a backdrop is a great way to bring history alive for so many.
The William Harris Homestead was chosen to be one of three “Georgia’s Hidden Treasures” for WSB-TV, Channel 2 (ABC), spring TV program,Georgia’s Hidden Treasures. It was a 30-minute program, initially airing June 9, and reshown throughout the summer. The segment about the William Harris Homestead Foundation will highlight the field trip, A Day in the 19th Century, for elementary, middle school students and adults. |
