The William Harris Homestead presented Heritage Day...A Day in the 19th Century on Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 10:00 am to 5:00 p.m.  Located in Monroe, GA, the Homestead boasts an original log house (circa 1825) and outbuildings from the early 19th century and provides a rare glimpse into the life of Georgia’s early homesteaders.

hayrideDuring Heritage Day, participants toured the log house and its grounds and enjoyed an array of festivities showcasing life in the 19th century. One highlight of the day -- a Civil War Reenactment, “A Camp of Instruction.”

There were many demonstrations, such as spinning, cloth weaving, basket weaving, candle making, chair caning, carpentry, blacksmithing, plowing with the Georgia Old Time Plow Club, square dancing, and sheep herding. We offered hayrides, buggy rides, pony rides, petting zoo and storytellers.  Lunch and dessert were available from the grill.  All day there was something great and entertaining for all ages.
